decrease today into Thursday. A new northwest swell will increase
the surf Thursday night, peak late Friday, and then diminish

* Peak Surf...5 to 9 feet with sets 10 to 12 feet. Highest sets in
  southern San Diego County. Highest surf this morning and again Friday
  into Saturday.

* High tides at La Jolla: 5.75 ft at 8:40 AM today, 5.60 ft at
  9:11 AM Thursday, 5.41 ft at 9:42 AM Friday, 5.07 ft at 10:16 AM
  Saturday.

* Impacts...Large breaking waves, very strong rip currents, waves
  overtopping jetties and coastal rock formations and sneaker
  waves. Minor coastal flooding and beach erosion during high
  tides. Greatest threat of coastal flooding this morning.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area...producing rip currents, beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions.

  Oahu, and Molokai, 8 to 10 feet tonight, then rising to 10 to
  15 feet Wednesday.

* TIMING...Surf will build again through the day on Wednesday,
  then subside Wednesday night.

* IMPACTS...Moderate...Expect strong breaking waves, shore
  break, and strong currents making swimming dangerous.

BEGINNING THURSDAY AFTERNOON...

.Strong storms in the Gulf of Alaska have created a series of
long period west-northwest swells that will move through the
Southwest California Coastal Waters this week. The large swells
will bring an extended period of high surf to area beaches through
Saturday evening. The largest and most energetic swell is
expected to arrive to the Central Coast by Thursday afternoon,
likely bringing damaging warning level surf of 20 feet or greater.

...HIGH SURF ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM PST SATURDAY...

* SURF AND TIMING...High surf of 7 to 10 feet will be common
  across west facing beaches through Saturday evening...with local
  sets up to 12 feet at times at exposed locations such as Ventura
  Pier. Even larger surf is expected Thursday night into Friday
  when breakers of 8 to 12 feet will be likely, with local sets
  up to 15 feet possible near Ventura Harbor.


* IMPACTS...Large, powerful, and dangerous waves with strong
  currents will create an increased risk in drownings. Sneaker
  waves can suddenly wash over previously dry beaches and
  jetties. There will be also a high risk of life-threatening
  rip currents. Damaging breaking waves are possible near the
  entrance of the Ventura Harbor. Local flooding of low lying
  beach parking lots will be possible with the high surf.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area...producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught
in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the
current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If
unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

SATURDAY...

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a
High Surf Warning, which is in effect from noon Thursday to 8 PM
PST Saturday.

* SURF AND TIMING...High surf ranging between 10 and 16 feet will
  continue along the Central Coast through Wednesday night...with
  local sets as high as 18 feet through tonight. Another round of
  even larger and potentially damaging surf is expected to peak
  Thursday afternoon into Friday. During this time, breakers of
  15 to 20 feet will be common with locally higher sets possible.

* Impacts...Large, powerful, and dangerous waves with strong
  currents will create an increased risk in drownings. Sneaker
  waves can suddenly wash over previously dry beaches and jetties.
  There will be also a high risk of life-threatening rip currents.
  From Thursday afternoon into Friday, there is an increased
  threat of damaging surf and beach erosion, with breaking waves
  into the Morro Bay Harbor, and local flooding of low lying beach
  parking lots.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area...producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught
in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the
current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If
unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

A High Surf Warning indicates that dangerous...battering waves
will pound the shoreline. This will result in life-threatening
conditions.
